Achari Gosht / Mutton Achari / Achari Lamb


Mutton cubes - 500 gm

Red chili whole - 5

Mustard Oil - 2 tbsp

Onion sliced - 2 medium size

Garlic chopped - 1 tbsp

Ginger Chopped - 1 tbsp

Yogurt - 200 gm

Fennel seeds - 1 tsp

Kalonji or onion seeds - 1 tsp

Coriander whole - 1 tbsp

Fenugreek seeds - 1 tsp

Mustard seeds - 1 tsp

Turmeric powder - 1 tsp

Red chilly powder - 1/2 tsp

Cumin powder - 1 tsp

Lemon juice - few drops

Tamarind Paste - 1 tsp

Salt to taste


Green chillies - 5

Coriander leaves - few


1. Boil the mutton cubes till half done.

2. Heat a pan and dry roast red chilly whole, fennel seeds, onion seeds, coriander seeds, fenugreek seeds and mustard seeds for 1 minutes on medium heat. Make a course paste adding little water as required.

3. Heat oil in a pan. Add sliced onion, chopped garlic and chopped ginger. Saute till light browned. Add the paste and cook for a while. Now add salt, red chilly powder, cumin powder and turmeric powder. cook for a minute. Then whisk in yogurt and add the half boiled mutton cubes. Add tamarind paste and cook till the mutton is cooked. Add lemon juice.

4. For the garnish slit the green chillies and fry them. Garnish the mutton with fried green chilly and coriander leaves.
