Dal Dhokli

Serves – 4

Calories – approximately 280 calories per 100 gm of serving

Origin – Gujarat

Preparation time – 30 minutes

Cooking time – 20 minutes

 

INGREDIENTS

FOR THE DAL

Arhar Dal (Toor dal) – 100gm

Raw peanut – 50 GM

Turmeric – 1 tsp

Salt – ½ tsp

Water- 500 ml

 

FOR TEMPERING DAL

Oil – 50 ml

Mustard seeds – 1 tsp

Curry leaves – 8 – 10 leaves

Onion chopped – use 1 onion

Tomato chopped – use 1 tomato

Asafoetida powder – ½ tsp

Red chilli whole dry – 2 each

Coriander powder – ½ tsp

Chilli powder – ½ tsp

Tamarind water – 100 ml

Jiggery – 50 gm

Salt as required

 

FOR THE DHOKLI

Whole wheat flour – 250 gm

Turmeric powder- ¼ tsp

Salt – ¼ tsp

Red chilli powder – ¼ tsp

Coriander powder – ½ tsp

Water – as required for making dough

 

Garnish

Chopped fresh coriander leaves

 

METHOD

First step is to prepare dal. Mix all the ingredients for dal and cook till dal is done.

Now prepare the tempering by adding oil to the pan. Heat the oil and add mustard seeds, curry leaves, chopped onion, chopped tomatoes, asafoetida, red chilli whole, coriander powder and chilli powder. Stir for a minute and add clear tamarind water. Add jaggery and cook for 5 minutes till jaggery dissolves. Add salt as required. Once the tempering is ready add it to the dal carefully.

For preparing dhokli take the flour in a clean bowl. Add all the dry ingredients and make a tight dough using water as required. Once the dough is ready roll it out flat and cut into 2 inch desired shape. Add the cut dhokli pieces into dal and cook for another 8 to 10 minutes.

Serve hot garnished with coriander leaves.
